    Is this the year when the Catholic Church begins to reform some of its outmoded practices and prejudices?

    Throughout 2022 and into 2023, the Church is inviting ordinary Catholics to speak their minds on issues that need attention. This invitation is part of a “synodal process" initiated by Pope Francis ­– officially known as “Synod 2021-23: For a Synodal Church."

    Among those working for Church reform for decades is John Wijngaards (pictured here), a Catholic priest, theologian and Scripture scholar who advocates for women in the priesthood and married priests, among other causes.
